This Week on the Island 06/11/2023
‘This Week on
the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about
happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts
that are lies.
D-Day was June 6, 1944. One year later, May 1945 Germany surrendered.
This week was Pride Week. The picture is from some years ago when the Pride flag was unfolded from coast to coast down Duval Street.
We also had ‘Swim around Key West’ this week.
The summer is time for Waterspouts (tornadoes at sea).
The Key West rooster is an interesting animal. They are protected by Key West law and are supposed to be decedents from the old Cuban rooster fighting days. They are also interesting in that they stay with the family until the babies grow and the hen goes back to sitting on new eggs.
Therefore, they are an emblem of The Conch Republic.
Father’s Day is June 18th. This is a Square Grouper (drugs thrown overboard when the drug runner is being chased by the Coast Guard.) Nice present.
Michael McCloud left Key West and moved to Arizona. It appears that he will be playing at Parrot Grande, in Chandler, AZ, August 25 - 27.
We leave you with ‘Easy like Sunday morning’. Pic from Cindy Booker.
