This Week on the Island 02/10/2013
‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weather: Beautiful all week except Jo got the flu and brought it home to me.
The book this week was ‘Ghost Night’ by Heather Graham.
It is that time of the year; we have lots of folks in town looking at the stars. Every year we have folks from all over (amateur astronomers) come to the Keys. It is wonderful. The Southern Cross is a southern hemisphere constellation and Key West is as far north as you can be and still see it. That is why it is on the Conch Republic Flag.
The city of Key West put the Duck Tours out of business. They sued and won $8 million. Now we have two companies driving the gigantic WWII vehicles up and down our little streets.
---------Schooner Wharf---------------------
This is what the old Schooner Wharf looked like when it was built.
Then there was a fire
Recently the city decided to tear down and repair the old concrete block building
This is what it looks like now
Plus a new building for offices for Schooneron Lazy Way Lane.
Sorry I was late with this issue of This Week On The Island. My wife and I both have the flu and it is kicking my butt.
Key West, You have got to love it
