This Week on the Island 11/07/2010
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Parrot Heads on Duval Street’.
Weather: Lots of rain, wind and then a cold front for the weekend. It dropped to the low 60’s by Sunday morning, but should be back into the 80’s by Wednesday. I got out my jeans and hoodie. It was sunny but cold on Saturday.
Parrot Heads (Jimmy Buffett fan club).
The Parrot Heads were in town this week. Members representing clubs from all over the country were having a great time walking the streets and partying in the town that he made famous in his songs. The headquarters for their activities was the Casa Marina Hotel that Henry Flagler built at the turn of the last century so that when the passengers on his train to Key West got here, they would have a nice place to stay.
Many of the different clubs had parties at the bars/restaurants around town. There was even a street party on Duval Street near Margaritaville, but most of the activities were at the Casa Marina. With the cold wind and the rain, it slowed down some of the activities, but this bunch kept partying.
The Greek Restaurant on Truman has closed.
Allen celebrated his 60th birthday at Schooner this week. Thanks for the adult beverages.
Sassi and Boca are enjoying being back at Schooner. We had Sassi’s 13th birthday party there last Sunday.
