This Week on the Island 08/12/2012
This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: It is August and hot. It doesn’t cool off much here at night so it is in the low 80’s at night and the high 80’s in the day. We are still cooler than Miami and a lot of other northern cities. (Key West is closer to Havana than a Wal-Mart.)
No book this week.
This week started with Sundays ‘Battle of the Bars’ on Lazy Way Lane behind Schooner Wharf and ended with ‘Lobster fest’ on Duval Street and Captain Tony’s Birthday at Captain Tony’s Saloon on Green Street.
This year there were 35 teams in 'The Battle of the Bars' and they raised $21,618 to bring the total to $262,396 raised for charity. Each team consists of 7 members. #1- makes a margarita, #2- carries margarita to table, #3- drinks the margarita, #4-carries trash to recycle bins, #5- rolls a keg to the table and taps it, #6- draws 7 beers, #7- carries beers to team mates that are all in a line. Each team member drinks their beer and places the cup up-side-down on their head. The winning team was ‘The Shufflin’ Big Shots’ from Shots and Giggles. Their time was 1 minute 53 seconds.
Boca dog rounded up some beers for Lobster fest.
Lobster fest was Saturday and lower Duval was closed for a street fair. Lots of lobster everywhere.
Friday night there was a gathering for Captain Tony’s birthday at The Chart Room.
There is a new mural on a wall in Bahama Village at the same corner as Blue Heaven.
Sunset from Sunset Key
We had people in town this week and I think they had a good time, if they didn’t it isn’t because there was nothing to do.
