This Week on the Island 12/17/2006

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The pictures this week are the Key West Parrot Head Club making a donation to 'Just4Kids' and another picture of us making a donation to the MARC House.

This week's book was 'North of Havana' by Randy Wayne White. I really enjoy his books and the adventures of Dr. Ford.

The Weather: The high 70's and no humidity at the start of the week. This is why we live here. Rain and sun at the end of the week.

It was three months ago that I had a total knee replacement at the VA in Miami. They put in a titanium knee. I have been going to physical therapy 3 times a week. I sit in a chair and they try to bend my leg a little further each time. It is very painful. This week I got 100 degrees motion from my knee and am now able to ride my bicycle again. Things keep improving.

Friday night was 'The Bight before Christmas' and was a showing of the decorations around the Key West Bight.

Saturday was supposed to be the 'Lighted Boat Parade'. It was cancelled due to rain. The boats were suppose to start in the Key West Bight, go out to the Gulf of Mexico, turned and go past Mallory Square and over to the Atlantic and Fort Zachary Taylor and back. We were planning to watch from Conch Republic Seafood. Maybe they will have it tonight (Sunday).
