This Week on the Island 10/21/2018
‘This Week on the
Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings
in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The
Weather: Hot.
Not much
happening in Key West, but Goombay starts this weekend.
Teeki
and I took another Teeki Cart Ride.
We rode back into Bahama Village to the city pool.
Let’s
not forget that Key West is a military town.
That would
be it for this week but we took a bunch of pictures of the ginger bread on
some of the houses. The ginger bread used to show what you did for a living.
Ships steering wheel means a Captain lived hereThe point is from a sexton and means a navigator lived here
Another Captains house.
Waves means this owner made his living from the sea.
Cards means this was a gambling house.
Look close and see spindels in the ginger bread. These are on a ships railings and were called belaying pins and were used to tie the ropes down. Since they were removable, they also came in handy in a fight.
Waves means they may their living from the sea.
My house. Lobster means the builder of this house made his living catching lobster. The Parrot Head was added by us to show I was President of the local Parrot Head Club, but that was a long time ago.
Ginger Bread men.
Hard Rock Cafe looking good.
We ended
the week with Goombay on Petronia Street in Bahama village.
We leave
you this week with a picture of our banana tree. The tree has developed a pod
and it has opened its first leaves displaying about 20 little bananas.
A little
extra is a picture of Truman’s Little White House.
