This Week on the Island 01/06/2013
‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Another beautiful week. In the high 70’s in the day and low 70’s at night. Lots of sun and white clouds.
The book this week was ‘Bel-Air Dead’ by Stuart Woods.
Hope you had a wonderful New Years Eve and may the rest of the year will be everything you wanted.
Reading about all the polar bear clubs breaking the ice and jumping in the water. The Polar bear club here breaks the ice, puts it in an adult beverage and then jumps in a heated pool.

On Dec 31st we had the Dachshund Parade on Duval Street. It was only a block or so long (those guys have very short legs and some still had to be carried).
New Years Eve at Sloppy Joe’s on Duval Street the countdown was made as a Conch Shell was lowered.
New Years Eve at Schooner Wharf on the Key West Bight the countdown was made as a Pirate Wench was lowered.
New Years Eve at Bourbon Street on Duval Street the countdown was made as Sushi the drag queen was lowered in a shoe.
NO PICTURE
New Years Eve at Sunset Pier at the end of Duval Street the countdown was made as a giant Lime was lowered into a giant Margarita. This one is new.
Wednesday, Jo needed to renew her driver’s license (February) so we jumped on our electric trikes and rode out near the airport to the license renewal building. I went ahead and renewed mine (May) while we were there. Where did they get the pictures of those two old people they put on our license.
We went to a Kennedy Restaurant on the corner of Kennedy and North Roosevelt (US#1). Jo wanted a gyro. The gyro was gigantic and it came with potato salad and we both had Russian Beer. What a great lunch. We will go back again.
There has been a Face book page started by someone from my old high school. It is only for us old timers. I think it is wonderful to be able to bring up memories of long ago.
Remember the picture last week of Bum Beach with Christmas Tree Island in the background. Here is the same picture taken Friday with the sea fog covering Christmas Tree Island.
Key West, You have got to love it
