This Week on the Island 12/21/2008
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Weather: How many ways can you say beautiful? Blue skies, white clouds, nice breeze, plenty of sun, temperature in the mid 70’s. The water is a nice shade of blue/green. The windows in the house are open and there is a nice breeze.
No book this week.
Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas!
Not many people in town this week. Everything is slow and the bars/restaurants really need customers. I have been doing some bike riding. It is a whole lot safer without all those cars.
This weekend was ‘The Bight before Christmas’ on Friday night and the City of Key West Christmas Party on Saturday night. I normally wear shorts, t-shirt, and sandals. For the party I wore my ‘Charleston Tuxedo’, blue sports coat, tan slacks, blue shirt, and real shoes (which hurt my feet).
The Conch Train is carrying people around at night to see the Christmas Lights and do some caroling. For pictures of some Key West ‘Christmas Houses’ go to http://images.keysnews.com/galleries/news/lightsGAL/index.htm Click thru the pictures on the left.
Because the weather has been so nice for the last 3 months, the doors and the windows have been open. Sassi (the black/white husky) likes the front door open because she can go out and lie on the front porch and watch people walking down Caroline Street. Boca (the brown/white husky) goes out the back door to get away from all the noise and sleeps under the adult tricycle.
Sunday, December 21, is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_solstice . Now the days begin to get longer.
