This Week on the Island 07/08/2007
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The picture this week is our 4th of July house. (Do they have a 4th of July in England?) Of course they do, they just don't celebrate it.

The book this week was 'Robinson Cruiso ' by Daniel Defoe.
The Weather: The weather for the next 5 months will be hot and humid with a chance for rain.
Tattoo Parlors were ban in Key West in 1966. They are now fighting to open a shop or two on Duval Street. More later.
Fantasy Fest this year ( the week of Halloween) will be 'Gnomes, Toads, and White Rabbit Tea Parties'.
Hurricane Wilma of 2005 pushed the casino boat, The Lady Luck, aground at MM13 on the gulf side. The owners have been unable to move it and now it has burned. They may be charged over $500,000 for the state to remove it.
July 4th week and the island is packed. There was a large fireworks display at the White Street pier. We didn't go because it frightens Wyleigh and Sassi. Lots of parties everywhere.
CBS Early Morning Show was in Key West at Mallory Square Thursday morning. There was quite a crowd.
Parrotheads- MM24 (http://www.milemarker24.com/ ) (if you liked that one try this one http://www.myspace.com/bobbiemm24biggestfan ) played at Schooner Wharf this week end. They are a local group and will be playing for MOTM (Meeting of the Minds) in November when all the Parrotheads come to town. (Parrothead- Jimmy Buffett fan)
Lots of weddings in town this week end (07-07-07). July 07, 2007.
This week was also Jo's and my 36th wedding anniversary. (Just came down for the weekend 36 years ago). Actually we did come here on our honeymoon. The place has really changed.
