This Week on the Island 06/18/2006

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Key West: a city of change. The picture this week is just another sunset in Key West. If you look closely at the sun in this picture you will see that an eclipse has started or did a cloud just get in the way?

The Weather: Hot and humid with a chance of rain. The weather forecast stays the same for the next 6 months (except for the occasional hurricane).

This was another week with lots of college kids in town. Duval Street was packed.

Jo has been on another business trip this week. Somewhere way up north in America. It was good to see her on Friday night.

Key Deer. They look like normal deer except they are only about 3 feet tall. It did not rain for about 6 months (Wilma in October to late May) and the Key Deer do not have enough food or fresh water. They are starving to death and it is against the law to feed them. The government also says they are overpopulated and it would be good to thin out the herd. Maybe this rain brought in by Tropical Storm Alfredo will help.

The 'Coast to Coast Conga Line' took pace Friday night. It was part of the Cuban American Heritage Week this week in Key West. The conga line took place on Duval Street from the Atlantic to the Gulf.

Flag Day was Wednesday. Key West went all out. What did your town do?

We had some folks from the west coast (west coast of Florida) drop by this week. They had a good time even if it was raining. It was a father and son team and the son had never been here before.
