This Week on the Island 07/26/2020

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: Hot and humid with lots of rain. This is Front Street at Two Friends Restaurant. Our streets drain to the ocean. At high tide the oceans can drain to the streets. If a lot of rain hit at high tide the water has no where to go.
Also, this week in history: July 20, 1969
Also, in 1969
Also, July 20 another year
I was also interested in this picture of Key West 1950. Note that US#1 (North Roosevelt Blvd) where it comes into Key West is surrounded by water on both sides. It was part of the Federal Project to fix US#1 from Miami to Key West completed in 1938.
Also, July 24 was National Tequila Day.
The road to Key West was blocked and we had a little over 100 cases of Corvid-19 in Monroe County. The road block was taken down 1 June and now we have over 1000 cases in Monroe County in only 55 days.

We leave you with this.
