This Week on the Island 11/18/2012
‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weather: It is Thursday morning, 15 November, and I am sitting on my front porch reading the paper and drinking coffee in 75 degree weather at 8:30 AM. Not a cloud in the sky. It doesn’t get any better than this.
No book this week.

So, you want to move to Key West. You find a little eyebrow house that is sitting in a mud hole and leaning sideways. You have it reinforced and jacked-up. In Key West you cannot tear down these old houses, you have to restore them.
After putting in a new foundation you lower the house.
Now it is time to fix that hole in the roof
Fix the roof
Make it look nice
Add some greenery and move in.
________________NOTE________________
In Key West if you build a new house it has to be a certain number of feet above sea level. That is why most new houses are up in the air on poles. Rebuilt houses do not have to follow those rules. BUT, there is a ‘Got You’. If you rebuild an old house and put too much into it and tear out too much of the old house while rebuilding, it is considered a new house. So you start with an old house, end up with a new house, but now it has to be jacked up because it is too low. (not this one)
---------------Closer to Home---------------------
We took another trip across the 7 mile bridge in the Hummer Saturday to have the staples removed from Boca’s chest. We also got some drugs for Sassi to help make her last days a little more comfortable.
