This Week on the Island 09/10/2017
‘This Week on the Island’ is
written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key
West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The
Weather: Hurricane Irma. It’s coming. It’s not going to get us. It changed and
now it is coming at us. It’s a Category 5. Now it’s a Category 3. Nothing is
constant except change.
The week
started with the chance of a hurricane coming toward us.
I need
to be in Miami VA for complete knee replacement surgery on Thursday at 7:30 AM.
The
Labor Day hurricane of 1935 killed over 400 people.
I put up
the storm shutters.
On Wednesday,
we drove to Miami to an Extended Stay Hotel.
The
surgery was cancelled. So, on Thursday we looked at the predictions for the
hurricane and saw that it was coming to Miami. Key West and the Florida Panhandle
were the only parts of the state that were not in ‘The Cone of Death’. So, we
went back to Key West.
By Saturday
the predictions had changed and the hurricane had moved toward the west with
Key West in its way. The good news is it is a category 3. The next 24 hours will be challenging.
Key West
is empty.
More on
my Facebook page as it happens.
