This Week on the Island 06/09/2013

‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: It rained all week. There was a low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico sitting off the Yucatan and it was causing a lot of rain here in Key West. It turned into a tropical storm named Andrea and moved north.

This week I read ‘Night Moves’ by Randy Wayne White. This is his 30th book I have read.

This week was ‘PRIDE’ week in Key West. Lots of people come to Key West and do things they would never do ‘back home’. Lots of people in town this week doing one thing that they would never be allowed to do back home. They are holding hands with the one they love in public. Now what could be wrong with that?

The Spanish named this place Florida because of all the flowers. My mom would have loved it here.

I know that you have flowers back home at this time of the year, but here they bloom year round.

I never get tired of all the beautiful flowers and their wonderful scent.

Some flowers only bloom at their time of the year

Other flowers bloom all year round.

A Royal Poinciana beside Buffets recording studio on Lazy Way Lane.

This is the Royal Poinciana and it only blooms in the early summer. It is a very pretty tree but it leaves quite a mess with its flowers all over the ground.

We leave you this week with the Appledore II leaving Key West on an overcast grey morning. They are headed to Camden, Maine for the summer.
