This Week on the Island 12/25/2005

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The picture above is a Merry Christmas from our family to yours.

The Weather: Down to 58 degrees on Wednesday night, but back to the high 70's by Christmas Day.

Over the weekend (Dec 10 - 11) someone put up 19 phone booths around Key West. Most of them are over at Smathers Beach and in the middle of the side walk. The city is trying to find out who did it, because they did NOT apply for a permit. Tuesday's paper had an article about the city finding the paperwork for the phone booths. It was all approved. Now we want to know who approved it and why didn't the newly elected Commission and Mayor know about it.

Sorry, I did not get very good pictures from the 'Lighted Boat Parade' last Saturday.

This weeks book was 'Blue Moon' by John Leslie. It is another Gideon Lowery mystery. Gideon is a detective that lives on Duval Street and works cases in the Key West area. I enjoyed this book.

At Wednesday night's Parrot Head Club meeting we had a few visitors. We had Carlyle & Barbara with their 2 'Keets' Sam & Nick, all from The Treasure Coast Club. We also had Marcia & Ted who just moved here and are thinking of joining. On top of all that we gave $1,000.00 to Just4Kids. It was a good night even if the temperature did drop to 58 degrees. The Key West Citizen (newspaper) has a page every Friday where the local Churches advertise. There are about 30 churches that do advertise. Lots of churches for a 2x4 mile island.
