This Week on the Island 03/31/2013

‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Sunday was the hottest day of the year (90 degrees) so far. A cold front came thru with lots of icy wind. Wednesday night it was 57 and broke a cold record for this date set in 1968. Wednesday it only got up to 65 degrees and broke another record set in 1969. It was beautiful and mid 80’s by the weekend. I hope that was the last cold front for the year.

This week’s book was ‘Ghost Shadow’ by Heather Graham. A Key West Ghost Story.

Happy Easter, hope you found all the Easter Eggs.

Spent some time with some folks from north of Philadelphia this week. They were here for the heat last Sunday (90) and the cold on Wednesday (57).

No tables at Schooner until a couple from Tampa invited Boca and me to join them.

Another ‘no table’ day until Brad and Brenda invited Boca and me to sit with them.

This Week started with St Patties Day at Finnegan’s Wake

The dive boat Sea Eagle sits in the bight right outside Conch Republic Seafood and is the boat that was used in ‘True Lies’ with Arnold Schwarzenegger. One of the mates went off the back of the boat and was hurt by the propeller. He is in the hospital in Miami.

Speaking of boats, how about ‘two ships passing in the day’ at Bum Beach on the Gulf side of Simonton Street

Another day of Cruise Ships

Our Hummer and Suzuki on Caroline Street. They are about 6 feet apart.

Seems that Good Friday Night, someone climbed on top of the Hummer hood and walked down the top and jumped off the back and on to the hood of the Suzuki. Drunks think differently than sober people.

There was a fair for the kids down at the Truman waterfront on Saturday

And we leave you this beautiful morning at Fort Zachery Taylor in Key West, Florida as we look past a palm tree and across the ships channel into the Gulf of Mexico. To the left of the picture is another one of my favorite benches on the island.
