This Week on the Island 12/31/2016

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
Weather:  Beautiful all week with the highs in the high 70’s and low 80’s. It got cold Friday with the temperature dropping into the 60’s. Should be back into the Low 80’s by Sunday.

We ended the year with the dachshund parade.

HAPPY NEW YEAR it is 2017
We have lots of celebrations for the New Year here in Key West. Our top crowd pleasers are:
1-     Sushi our female impersonator
2-    The Conch Shell drop at Sloppy Joe's
3-    The Pirate Wench lowered at Schooner Wharf
4-    A lime being lowered into a Margarita at Sunset Pier
Couldn’t find anything on YouTube about the lime drop.

There is a new celebration I read about in the paper ‘ A few blocks south, a towering champagne bottle at LaTeDa will “pop” at midnight, pouring confetti onto all who are gathered on the street below.’

Jo and I sat on the front porch and enjoyed champagne as we watch people going to Duval and then returning from Duval. We meet lots of happy people.

Happy New Year

Key West you have got to love it
