This Week on the Island 04/17/2005
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Weather: Wednesday night a cold front came thru. The temp dropped into the 60's at night and the mid 70's in the day. The air conditioning is off and the window are open.
Wednesday morning while walking Wyleigh and Sassi I got a great laugh at about 6:45 AM. Someone had posted a 'Handicap Parking' sign where the Schooner Western Union docks.
Wednesday night I was invited to a birthday party for Captain Outrageous. He ran for Mayor once but had to have his real name on the ballot. No one knew him by his real name so he legally changed his name to Captain Outrageous.
I got another day in court this week. It was called by the Judge that was assigned to the case last time I tried to get my money back from the guy that was suppose to rebuild my front porch. She found him in contempt of court and ordered him to deliver $100 to her office every Thursday or go to jail. Looks like I may get some of my money returned.
This Week was the '2005 World Sailfish Championship' here in Key West. Mallory Square was headquarters and had a large tent covering most of the area. American Idol runner-up last year, Diana DeGarmo, was here to kick off the event and sang the National Anthem. Don Shuler, from the Miami Dolphins and Pro Wrestler "Hacksaw' Jim Duggan were also here.

-------------------------------------------------------History----------------------------------Karl Tanzler, better know as Von Cosel, fell in love with a younger woman. She died and was buried in the Key West Cemetery. Later he removed her remains to his house. He kept her remains and restored them with wax and other things. He lived with her, slept with her and even had sex with her for years after her death. He was discovered in October of 1940 and run out of town. The tomb he had built for her in the Key West cemetery was destroyed by a bomb only hours after he was gone.
