This Week on the Island 06/05/2005

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Weather: Sunday & Monday: Hot and humid. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and today: rain, the rainy season is here.

Last Sunday was Memorial Day and the Southernmost Parrot Head Club participated in the 'Minimal Regatta' held at Schooner Wharf. We did not win any prizes this year, but we had a good time and all the money went to the Navy League. For pictures please go to www.SPHCKeyWest.com and click PHOTOS.

This week (June 4- 12) starts 'Pride Week', it used to be 'Gay Pride Week' but they changed the name to attract more people. This is the week about 2 years ago that Key West unveiled a 'Rainbow Flag' down Duval Street from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico. There are may activities, with the headquarters for all the fun being at the bars near 801 Bourbon on Duval. There will be a Mr. & Miss Pride Fest, a transgender meeting, The Pride Fest Follies, a street fair, the Gay Games, The Pride Fest Parade, and of course the Leather Fetish Bash. I find all of this interesting and enjoy watching. I do not feel threatened by this 'alternate lifestyle, because I know who I am.

The week of June 12th starts 'Cuban American Week'.

The week end of June 16-19 will be 'Chicken Fest'.

Clint Bullard played 3 nights at the Hog's Breath over the week end and Hugo Duarte will play all next week.

Jo has been out of town all week in Plaino, Texas. She left Monday after the Minimal Regatta and got home Saturday night.
