This Week on the Island 07/03/2011

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The first picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘40th Anniversary’. The second picture is ‘Jo and I’.

Weather: June 30th, the first named storm of the season was Arlene and she went to southern Mexico. July 2nd it rained here in Key West and we needed it.

I started ‘Crack Down’ by Bernard Cornwell. It was suggested as a good read by Doug from Virginia at Schooner one day. I like murder mysteries that take place near Key West. I seem to enjoy male authors best, one of the exceptions being Janet Evanovich and her murder mysteries that take place in New Jersey.

July 4th weekend and there are lots of people everywhere. I really enjoy people on vacation that are having a good time.

40th Anniversary
It was the summer of ‘69 when I first met Jo. I was fresh out of the service in the fall of ’68 and got started in computer school late. It was necessary to go to summer school to catch up with the rest of my class. Although I had worked in computers in the service, I still needed a degree in Computer Science. She was fresh out of high school and getting an early start in computer school. We met in Psychology class. We dated for 2 years and then were married. July 2nd we celebrated 40 years of marriage and 42 years of knowing each other. It takes a lot to put up with me for that long. She is a strong woman.
