This Week on the Island10/06/2013

‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Another beautiful week. In the mid 80’s in the day and high 70’s at night with lots of sun.
The book this week was ‘Mean High Tide’ by James W. Hall.
We had elections this week. Jo and I did early voting. The Mayor and 3 City Commissioners were re-elected. There is a runoff scheduled for the Utility Board. The proposal to do a study about widening the ships channel was defeated.

Old Key West. The street to the left of the ship in the water is Duval Street. The pier to the left of Duval is where the Pier House is now. The oil tanks to the right of Duval is where Sunset Pier and the hotel is now. To the far right of the picture is the outer mole and it is still there. The Western Hotel complex is missing. The big redbrick Customs House is also missing.
