This Week on the Island 12/18/2005
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The picture above is a December sun set over Higgs Beach at 5:30 PM and 80 degrees. Also my favorite dance partner, Sassi and I dance to Michael McCloud's 'Schooner Wharf Bar Dog'.
The Weather: Warm over the week end, the temperature dropped to 61 degrees Monday night, back to the high 70's for this week end. Us locals had to get out the long sleeve shirts and long pants. I even put on socks and shoes, but by Thursday the dogs and I were riding around in the Suzuki with the top down.
There are not a lot of people in town this week. So we have the best of everything. Wonderful weather, empty streets, and the town to us locals.
I have noticed that why I am still walking the dogs, most of the tourist seem to have 'pet luggage'. They walk from the ferry terminal at the end of Caroline Street to Duval Street pulling their 'pet luggage'. I guess I am just old fashion.
I mentioned that last week we (The Southernmost Parrot Head Club, SPHC) worked with the 'MARC House' selling Christmas Trees and made a donation of $1,000.00. This week we (the SPHC) met at the 'Dog Park' and made a donation of $500.00 and next week we will meet with 'Just for Kids' and donate $1,000.00. (Photos at http://www.sphckeywest.com/photos.htm )That just about takes care of our treasurery. We also had our Christmas Party Saturday night at Margarittaville and then went to the Lighted Boat Parade in the Key West Bight. This is like a Christmas parade, except we use boats. Photos next week.
This weeks book was 'The Streets of Key West' by Willis Burke. It tells a history of Key West by telling the history of it's street names.
