This Week on the Island 02/21/2016

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
Weather: Beautiful Week.
I continued to read ‘Coconut Cowboy’ by Tim Dorsey.
I have been busy all week working on the fence in front of the house. I had no pictures for the blog and my wife, Jo, suggested I take some pictures of the fence. So here goes.
Many years ago this house sat on this lot. It was destroyed in a hurricane and our house was built in its place.
Fifteen years ago, on her birthday in Feb 2001, we purchased this house.

On May 16, 2014, a vehicle came off the road in the middle of the night and wiped out the fence.

The city said the fence was on city property and we needed to move it back about 6 inches. So we built a new fence.

There was 6 inches of dirt between the sidewalk and the fence and everyone used it as a place to dump their trash. The Carolina Street Project includes new sidewalks, but they did not put the sidewalk up against the fence, so we still had about 3 inches of dirt between the sidewalk and fence. I spent this week moving the fence out 3 inches so it is now against the sidewalk.

Living in Key West is not all Margarita’s and Buffett songs.
