This Week on the Island 07/01/2012
This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Summer is here and it is hot and humid. The temperature is predicted to reach 90 on Sunday and then cool off a little. I know, it is hotter than that in your town.
The book this week was ‘D. C. Dead’ by Stuart Woods. I started it but have not finished it.
The building that housed ‘The Sports Page’ is getting another tenant. They want to tear out the front and put in a patio (according to the paperwork on the front of the building). They apparently have not noticed that the ‘waste pump (sewage)’ for the city is just across the street.
This building at 405 Green Street, across from the Audubon House, has also had the front torn out.
Bobalo’s next to the Green Parrot was demolished to make room for a Bar-b-que restaurant.
The city updated one of the monuments at Mallory Square.
Monday, July 2nd, will be our 41st anniversary. It was the summer of ’71 when we jumped into my little red 1964 Corvette and we left Columbia, SC and headed toward Atlanta. We visited Jo’s relatives in Birmingham and Montgomery, Al, and then went on to Shreveport, LA to visit her Grandparents. From there we headed to New Orleans and then across to Mobil, AL. We followed the west coast of Florida to the Keys and on to Key West. We took US#1 back to Columbia, SC. It was the first of many trips we would take to see this great country. (Not all in the '64 Corvette.)
Happy 41st anniversary Jo Bennett. You know I love you.
