This Week on the Island 12/19/2010

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pictures this week (click to enlarge) are ’46 degrees’, ‘Beautiful even if it is cold’ and ‘Sassi and Boca going for a ride’.

Weather: Last Sunday was beautiful. In the mid 70’s and I lay on our new back deck and did some reading. Wednesday morning it was 46 degrees in Key West and broke the record of 52 degrees set in 1885. It was back into the high 70’s by this week end.

The book this week was ‘Three to Get Ready‘by Janet Evanovich.

There is a blog, http://keywestmusic.blogspot.com/ that I enjoy. His latest is ‘Key West - The Language’. It is interesting how, as he points out, that in Miami and Havana they speak Spanish, but here in between the two in Key West everyone at least knows English.

This week the ‘big’ Key West Fair started at the Truman Waterfront and will last until next year. I think the dogs need some cotton candy.

A tourist on the Truman Little White House tour was given permission to tune the Truman piano. He said he enjoyed playing the piano the Truman had played.

Saturday, after lunch, there was a car show at Turtle Krawls. It was a warm sunny day, until it started raining.

Saturday night was the Christmas Party for the employees of the city of Key West. Jo and I went and had a great time. It is about the only time I dress up. I wore my Charleston Tuxedo (kaki slacks, blue cotton button down long sleeve shirt, a dark blue blazer, and my sandals).
