This Week on the Island 05/22/2005
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Weather: The rain came this week. Lots of rain Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, The humidity is back.
Being a Parrot Head (Jimmy Buffett fan) and past president of the local club is a nice thing at times. Many Parrot Heads from other clubs get in touch while they are in town and we have the opportunity to meet and talk some. This week two Parrot Heads from out of town that belong to our local club have spent some of their time with me. Although they have been here many times we have been able to go to some places and do some thing they have never done.
We went to Lands End and I pointed out the building that originally housed Margarittaville. We spent a few hours laying around the pool at Monty's. We had black beans and rice for lunch one day at B.O.'s Fish Wagon. They went for a jet ski tour around the island. We went to Fausto's to get some chocolate milk and their lunch special. I suggested we visited the grave yard and the grave with the head stone that states 'I told you I was sick', but they had already been there. They attended our monthly Parrot Head Social at Awful Arthur's and had nachos and hot wings. We went to see the new Star Wars movie and walked the 4 miles back to my house stopping for liquid refreshments along the way and visiting many bars/restaurants they did not know existed. We had a burrito breakfast at Turtle Kraals. We visited Bahia Honda, the state park at MM33 (mile marker 33). I think they had a good time.
Last Tuesday, Key West made national news when 17 water spouts were seen in connection with a storm front that moved thru the islands.
Friday for lunch I went to Schooner Wharf to have some chips & salsa and met Mark & Stephanie Sarka from the Buckeye Parrot Head Club. They are the couple that won the 2 night/3 day stay at a local motel in the 'Welcome to the Island' party that was put on last year at MOTM by the local (Southernmost) Parrot Head Club. They are really nice people, they left Schooner and headed over to B.O.'s to get a fish sandwich.
My wife got home late Friday night. This week she was in Plaino, Texas.
Key West, You have got to love it
