This Week on the Island 10/28/2012
This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Lots of sun then a hurricane with lots of rain and wind then more sun.
No book this week.
It was October 1962, fifty years ago, and we were in the middle of the Cuban missile crisis. We were 90 miles away from nuclear annihilation. A lot has changed with Russia, Cuba, and America since then. The guy in the back seat is Kennedy.
We had a category 2 hurricane Sandy bypass us this week. We got lots of wind and rain and a few of the Fantasy Fest events were canceled. Most folks just partied right on thru it.
Fantasy Fest was this week with lots of parties everywhere. Nudity is not allowed, but if it is painted it isn’t nude. Lot of people with lots of painted body parts. Some are lovely, some should put their clothes back on, but most are just normal looking folks. This little 2 mile x 4 mile island with less than 25,000 people had about 80,000 visitors and they all wanted to be on Duval Street as near to Sloppy Joes as they could get. Sunday they all leave and we get ready for next week and about 3,000 Parrot Heads.
There is another parade in town this week. It is held on Friday afternoon and is called the Masquerade March. Anyone can join in and pets are welcome. It starts at the graveyard in the middle of town and then heads down toward Duval Street.
Even the little ones join in.
There was also another street fair on Duval on Friday.
Saturday night was the Fantasy Fest parade and now it is over with for another year. Put your clothes on and go back home so we can return to normal. Normal, that is for Key West.

A guy dropped by to say ‘hi’ on Thursday. He was from England and said he read the blog every Sunday.
