This Week on the Island 04/28/2013
‘This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather: Hot and humid with lots of sun and white clouds. I love it.
This week I read ‘Deadly Gift’ by Heather Graham.
We call these things Chugs. This one was at Fort Zack. Cubans build them and risk everything, including there lives, to get to America. If they get here (dry foot) they are allowed to stay. If they are picked up a sea (wet foot) they are taken back to Cuba. We may have a lot of things wrong in this country, but apparently it is worth risking everything to get here.
Mike & Elaine were in town for Mike’s birthday. Joe and Sharron were in town to get away from the cold. Jo, my wife, had 5 friends in town; Barto, Tranger, Travis, Lauri, and Sullivan. One of them was having a birthday. And let’s not forget the guy I met at Schooner from the islands, I remember he said Long Island. It has been a busy week.
We continued ‘Conch Republic Days’ this week.
There was a Conch Cruiser Car show on Lazy Way Lane beside Schooner Wharf.
There was the Great Conch Republic Parade on Duval Street. We dressed as pirates and walked from the Atlantic to the Gulf across the state of Florida

Let’s not forget the bed races on Duval Street on Saturday.
