This Week on the Island 12/26/2010

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Weather: Beautiful and then another cold front arriving Christmas night.

This week I continued with ‘Three to Get Deadly‘ by Janet Evanovich.

The BP Oil checks have arrived. It is amazing to me the people that are receiving checks and the amount they are getting. One guy sells tickets for sunset cruises (he is an employee and does not have an investment in the company) yet he received a check for $16,000. Even waiters in bars are receiving checks. I guess it will be a good Christmas for some folks.

Tuesday our spiral staircase arrived. The delivery guy left it in the street in front of the house because it would not fit thru the gate. I opened the box and carried each piece to the back yard and then took the box apart.

Wednesday was the ‘Lighted Bike’ parade. The joke of course is how much does a bike have to drink to be ‘lighted’.

Friday afternoon we went to Walt’s house on Sugarloaf Key for our annual Christmas Eve get-to-gather. I was the designated driver, so I drank lots of tea but I still had a great time. It was warm on the way home so I drove with the window down in the Hummer.

Saturday, of course, was Christmas. Boca and Sassi got the same present. It was a dog bone each. We enjoyed watching Boca tear the wrapping off his present. Sassi didn’t seem to care for hers.

I want to thank all he readers of this blog. I really enjoy it when I am walking around town and have folks come up and say they read the blog. I also enjoy the many emails I get from other folks. Some emails are from far away from folks that have been to Key West and dream of coming back. I especially appreciate the ones from our men/women in the service. I have been there and done that and know it to be a very lonely job.

I hope each of you had a very Merry Christmas.
