This Week on the Island 10/21/2007

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week is 'B.O.'s Fish Wagon'. Another place the Parrot Heads will want to visit when they are in Key West for MOTM in November. Jimmy Buffett has been known to drop by for a fish sandwich.

The Weather: Windy the first of the week, then rain, then sunny, then rain again for the weekend.

This weeks books were 'Cuban Death-Lift' by Randy Wayne White and 'Unnatural Selection' by Carl Peachey. Carl plays lead guitar with Michael Mccloud at Schooner Wharf.

Wednesday night Jo and I went for a sunset cruise with our friends from Chicago. We went on Carl Peachey's schooner 'Island Belle'. It was wonderful. Pictures at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ThisWeekontheIsland/ click PHOTO then click OCTOBER SUNSET.

After the wind died down the first of the week, I spent some time riding my bicycle. It is good for my titanium knee. It is hot and humid again.

Went kayaking on Friday. Got a little sun and good upper body workout.

This weekend kicked off the start of the busy season with 'Goombay Festival'. The celebration of our African-American Heritage. Petronia Street was blocked off for a few blocks from Duval Street back into Bahama Village to Emma Street. There was a parade, bands, dancing , speeches, and of course lots of vendors with lots of eats and Carib beer. One of our local Parrot Head Club members, Matt, played steel drums.
