This Week on the Island 10/23/2005
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

This weeks book was 'Under the Eye of the Storm' by John Hersey. This one is about people on a sail boat fighting a hurricane. Very interesting book.
This week was 'Jury Duty' again. We are a small island so jury duty comes quite often. It is amazing the number of people that show up in attire that they are told NOT to ware, (shorts, tank tops, flip-flops). It is also amazing the excuses people have not to perform jury duty. One guy had a business appointment in Ft Lauderdale and need to be excused. It ends up he was going to pick up a boat. It is also amazing the number of people here that are related to the judge, or one of the attorneys on the case, or the defendant, or the complainant, or one of the witness's. Then they want to know anyone that may be predigest against one side or the other. I think I wasn't chosen as a jury member because I knew people on both sides of the case, and had had 'adult beverages' with some of the witnesses, and was in the Parrot Head Club with another person.
Jo was in Texas all week and was to fly back to Key West on Friday night. She got to Miami and found her flight to Key West was cancelled, so she rented a car and drove home. Lots of people are leaving town ad this woman drives to Key West to be with her family. 'What's love got to do with it?'
This week was suppose to be 'Goombay', the celebration of African American heritage in Bahama Village, but it has been delayed until the week end of Nov 5 & 6. Next week is suppose to be Fantasy Fest but It has been delayed until after the hurricane.
