This Week on the Island 03/20/2005

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Weather: Another Beautiful Week.

St. Pat's Day in Key West. Thursday the VFW on Elizabeth had a St. Pat's New Orleans Crawfish cookout. I don't know what that had to do with St. Pat's Day. Finnegan's Wake on the corner of Grinnell and James Street is near the parking garage on Caroline. They blocked off James Street and had Irish bands, green beer, and corn beef and cabbage. Every bar in town had something going on, but the big party was on Duval Street in front of Sloppy Joe's. The streets were a mess, when the dog's and I took our early morning walk on Friday. Key West does a very good job of cleaning up.

We had about 12 spring breakers in the house next to us this week. I had to call the police 3 times and my neighbors call a few more times. These kids were a real pain in the a++.

I picked up a t-shirt and 'Pub Crawl Pass' for Jo and I at Schooner Wharf at 4:00 PM on Wednesday for the Pub Crawl on Saturday. Like in the past, it started at the Sands, went to Southernmost Tiki Bar, Salsa Loca, Key West Seafood, Jack Flats, The Bull, Naked Lunch, Rick's, Crabby Bills, and ended at Schooner Wharf. The weather was near 75 degrees and sunny. Some members of the Southernmost Parrot Head Club met and 'crawled' as a group. Sassi and Wyleigh joined us and we had a wonderful time.

March 19 was 'The Conch shell blowing contest' at Sunset Pier. It was part of Heritage Days and the local kids had a great time.
