This Week on the Island 08/30/2009
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) ‘USNS Robert E Peary’. It is docked in the Key West Harbor next to the old sub pens. For more info go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USNS_Robert_E._Peary_(T-AKE-5)
Weather: The weather remains beautiful with the 4th named storm (Danny) of the hurricane season missing us.
This weeks book was “Key West: A Collection’ by a group of writers.
My wife decided to clean the room upstairs that we use for storage. So of course that meant that I was selected to help get everything out of the room. Then I was selected to tear up the old carpet, scrape the flood to get rid of the old glue and put down new carpet. We do not run the A/C upstairs unless we have visitors. It is in the low 90’s outside. I lost about 5 pounds by sweating. The project will continue into next week and beyond because she still has to sort thru the ‘stuff’ and we have to put most of it back into the storage room.
Randy Acevedo, the suspended Superintendent of the Key West School System, was found guilty of 3 felonies. He could get 15 years and a $15,000 fine. He covered-up his wife’s theft from the school system. The stories range from $150,000 to $300,000.
Things Tourist Say: ‘Why isn’t it cold here in August?’ She thought she was in the southern hemisphere and it should be winter, but she knew she was in Florida. Yes, she was blond.
