This Week on the Island 06/19/2011
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The first picture this week (click to enlarge) is a new place, ‘Smokin’ Tuna’. Scott Kirby is part owner. It is on Charles Street which is off Duval in front of Irish Kevin’s. It is the same place that used to be El Alamo. The second picture is ‘Mike and Elaine kayaking’.
Weather: The humidity is here, it showed up Monday morning after a rain Sunday night. If you spend anytime outside you will be wet with sweat.
The book this week was ‘Thirty Days has September- Cool ways to remember Stuff’ by Chris Stevens. I also started ‘Free Range Institution’ by Michael Haskins. Another ‘Who Done it’ in Key West. In Aug of 2009 I read his ‘Chasin’ the Wind’.
Did some kayaking this week with Mike and Elaine. We went to Hurricane Hole Marina to rent the kayaks. After kayaking we had a few adult beverages and talked about our adventure. A good time was had by all.
The Castaways Against Cancer kayak team arrived in Key West Friday. They left Miami on June 11th. In the last 12 years they have raised $250,000 for cancer research.
Elaine has spent a lot of time on the bicycle this week. I think she likes taking in the sites of Key West while getting her exercise.
Friday night Jo, my wife, went to The Green Parrot to watch The Sauce Boss put on his show. He wears a chef hat and cooks gumbo while he plays lead guitar in the band. At the end of the night he serves up the gumbo. Jo had a good time.
