This Week on the Island 11/27/2011
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

The pictures this week, (click to enlarge) are ‘Key West Houses’. I love these picture in that they shout Key West to me. The 1st picture is from www.ConchScooter.blogspot.com. Coconuts outside and open window in a little Key West house. The 2nd picture is also from Conch Scooter and has blue skies, green foliage, a white house, and pretty flowers. The 3rd picture is a picture from Chuck’s blog, OldTownKeyWest.wordpress.com. All three have Key West written all over them. I love living here.
Weather: Beautiful: in the mid 80’s in the day and mid 70’s at night. Lots of sunshine.
The week I finished ‘Bone Key’ by Les Standiford.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and had lots to be thankful for. We went to Walt’s up around mile marker 20 (MM20) like we have been doing the last few years. Everyone brought lots of food and a good time was had by all.
Two of my favorite blogs are: Conch Scooter at http://conchscooter.blogspot.com/ and Chucks new blog at http://oldtownkeywest.wordpress.com/ . These are daily blogs and have lots of pictures of Key West and the lower Keys. I hope you enjoy them.
There be pirates here! A pirate village was at Truman Annex on the waterfront for the weekend.
---------------History-------------------
Most of the old houses in Old Town Key West were built small. A really nice house in Key West would be about 1,000 square feet. A large house would be 1,500 square feet. Houses here a measured in living square footage. Houses in most places are measured in heated square footage. That could mean that a 1,500 square foot house could be 500 heated square feet and the rest in decking and a pool.
Key West, You have got to love it
