This Week on the Island 08/31/2003
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not a lot happening. The first part of the week we had very few tourist, but the last part of the week has brought lots of folks as they get here for the Labor Day Weekend. I have spent most every day kayaking at different spots around the island.
The weather has been beautiful here, but Miami has been getting lots of rain from the different tropical storms that seem to all be going that way this year. This next Hurricane headed our way, Fabian, seems to be a bad one. They usually don't turn into hurricanes until they reach the Gulf or the Caribbean. We are all keeping an eye on it. The last big hurricane to hit the Key's was in 1935 when the railroad was destroyed. There have been some smaller hurricanes since then and George really tore up the middle Key's on September 25,1998, but we are still looking for that 'big' one.
Next week, 'Women in Paradise's. The locals call it 'Dikes on Bikes'.
