‘This week on the Island' is
written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key
West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather:
Winter must be on the way. I got up for our 5:30 walk and it was below 80
degrees.
This
week I read ‘Haunted’ by randy Wayne White.
Labor
Day week end is gone and so are all the tourist. It will be quite now until the
week of Halloween when Fantasy Fest kicks off. It is a tuff time for the people
in the service industry. Little income and still paying rent and utilities plus
needing to eat for the next 1 ½ months. Lots of restaurants will close for
vacation for a week or two and lots of places will be updated with new paint.
Last
week was the dedication of a reconditioned park in Bahama Village. The horses
were very well behaved.
The Budweiser
horses were in town sometime back. Here they are at the old Customs House that
is now a museum. It was built as a federal building and therefore had to abide
by the rules at that time. The roof of this building is very steep to keep from
getting snow accumulation in the winter. The roof has worked for many years as
we have never had any snow accumulation.
This
is the bait shop at Lands End and is near Turtle Kraals and Half Shell Raw Bar.
It just look like something you would find in Key West. They have cold beer.
The
city is doing work at Simonton Beach on the Gulf side of Simonton Street.
This
week was Labor Day week and we are reminded of the great hurricane of 1935 that
destroyed the railroad. Lots of people died.
We
leave you with the sunrise over the bight on Saturday morning. The picture is
taken from Conch Republic Seafood looking east.
Key
West you have got to love it
