This Week on the Island 12/14/2008

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Schooner Wharf Beer Garden’. Entering Schooner Wharf from Lazy Lane now has a ‘Beer Garden’ on your right. At one time this was parking. About a year ago this was the ‘Dog Bar’ area. Now it is the ‘Beer Garden’ or ‘The Dog Pound’ or some other name.

The Weather: Wonderful most of the week with a cold front coming thru for the week end. The low Friday night was in the 60’s and the high Saturday in the mid 70’s .

No book this week.

My wife, Jo, has taken a job at Garrison Bight (about 2 miles away). I think she was bored sitting at home with me and the dogs, plus she needed health insurance. We all take her to work each morning and go to meet her half way home in the afternoon. It has become a real family outing and good exercise. Because of her job, we have been invited to the city annual Holiday Party. I had to go buy some shoes because I probably shouldn’t wear sandals.

Saturday night was ‘The Lighted Boat Parade’. The boats left the Key West Bight headed out toward Mallory Square and then back into the bight for judging. It was not as cold (66 degrees) as predicted (49 degrees). I never seem to get any good pictures to show you guys.
