This Week on the Island 02/22/2009
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is a boat at ‘Conch Harbor’ that is about 25 foot and has three 300 horsepower motors. I never see it move, but am fascinated as to why they need 900 horsepower.

Weather: Wonderful: In the high 70’s in the day and the mid 60’s at night. Friday another cold front (anything that drops the temperature below 70) came thru but it was back in the low 70’s by Saturday afternoon.
The book this week was ‘Tropical Surge’ by Benjamin Reilly.
The island is still packed with tourist. Lots of Canadians.
Truman Annex: There have been lots of battles between Truman Annex and the city. The one that was going on when I moved here was ‘transit rental’. They did not feel they were part of Key West and did not need to follow the city laws. The next was Southard Street; they claimed the part of the street that went thru their part of town did not belong to the city. Next they wanted to install 8 foot tall gates across the street to keep people out. Now the Federal Government is involved because the Federal Government owns property on the other side of Truman Annex and they cannot limit the Federal Government access by putting up gates. More later?
