This Week on the Island 05/24/2020

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather:  The rainy season has begun. Hot and humid for the next 6 months.
Key West has been busy fixing sidewalks, scraping up old pavement and putting down new pavement and paint. Pavement gone and old bricks showing.
New blacktop.
And Paint
The best mode of transportation in this town is a bike.
Or a custom car. (At Home Depot).
If it is made of wood it has termites. If it is plastic the sun will destroy it.
If it is metal the salt in the air will make it rust. This is the Curry mansion tented to be gassed for termites.
Monday is Memorial Day.
We leave you with this.

This Week on the Island 05/17/2020

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather:  The Dry Season which started at the end of Hurricane Season, last Nov 1, seems to be over and the Rain Season has begun. The helicopter was also spraying for mosquito season. And you people think we don't have seasons down here in Key West.
Book for this week.
Had my 76th trip around the sun last week. Teeki got me a t-shirt.
I decided to make my self a Key Lime pie.
It was gone in no time.
The city is removing the blacktop from Duval Street from the Gulf side to Truman Avenue (US#1).
What week is complete without a trip to Ft. Zack.
And Saturday was Armed Forces Day.
We leave you this week with a rainbow over the dog park on Saturday morning.
On St. Patrick’s Day, Sloppy Joe’s closed. I count the social distancing from that date. So, it has been 2 months of retirement for lots of you folks. Staying at home and no or very little income. How have you enjoyed retirement?

This Week on the Island 05/10/2020

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather:  Same as last week and the week before. And the week before.  And the week before. BUT: It looks like next week we may finally get some rain.
A map was posted on the construction fence at the Truman Waterfront Park. The bottom left corner shows a new dog park. Teeki is all excited.
Schooner Wharf Bar opened so Teeki and I went for an adult beverage.
And of course, we had Cinco de mayo on Taco Tuesday.
One of our rides this week took us to Simonton Beach on the Gulf side of the island.  Check out how clear that water is. The water temp is 81 degrees.
The city of Key West has been replacing sidewalks.
We have lots of joggers on our streets.
I saw in the paper where a small dog had been attacked by a hawk. Here is south Florida we have a different situation.
This is the Southern Cross, it is on our flag (Conch Republic Flag). It is a southern constellation and cannot be seen from most of the northern hemisphere. We can see it from Key West; therefore, it is on our flag.
Beware of the Murder Hornets.
Happy Mothers Day!
