This Week on the Island 11/24/2019

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather:  Beautiful. The snowbirds (people that live up North in the summer and Key West in the winter) have started returning. It will be beautiful here for the next 6 months. Low humidity and no mosquitos.
This is where I live. If you click on the picture, you can see Boca Chica Navy pilot training base at the top. The next island down is Stock Island. Then you cross Cow Key Channel into Key West. That area is called 'The Triangle'. Driving down the left side of the photo and you are on North Roosevelt (north side of the island and headed West). That is an area called 'New Town'. Next on the left is some Navy Property that was built by Flagler for his railroad to Key West. To the right of that is an area called 'Mid Town’. Below that on the left is The Key West Bight and the area of town that I live in 'Old Town'. Below that you will see the cruise ship and Mallory Square. To the right of the cruise ship you will see Truman Waterfront Park and the sub pen. To the right of that is Fort Zack. Headed back East on the Atlantic side of the island you can see Higgs Beach before White Street Pier (the pier sticking out in the water. Further up and you reach South Roosevelt (the south side of the island) and Smathers Beach and the airport. Then it is around the bend and to the eastern side of the island that used to be 'House Boat Row'. Then it is back to 'The Triangle' and US#1 and off the island.
Havana celebrated 500 years of existence.
Teeki decided to take a little swim in the Gulf of Mexico at the end of Simonton Street.
