This Week on the Island 02/14/2009

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘February Sunrise’. I took this Friday morning over near the airport looking out over the Atlantic.

Weather: Tuesday morning I got up at 5:30 AM to walk the dogs and it was already 70 degrees with a high expected of 75 degrees. Meanwhile in Washington, DC it was 25 degrees and snowing again. Thursday morning I got up at 5:30 AM to walk the dogs and it was 54 degrees. Friday it is in the mid 70’s here and snowing in northern Florida. This has been one weird winter.

This week I read ‘Immortal Logic’ by Carl Peachey (lead guitar with Michael McCloud). I found the book very hard to put down.

Happy Valentine’s Day. What did you get your loved one? After being married for as long as we have, it becomes very hard to decide on a gift. This year Jo gets a 5 pound box of red cinnamon hearts. She loves them. I got Buffett’s new CD ‘Buffett Hotel’.

The Norwegian Queen Mega Yacht is in the harbor. It is beautiful http://www.trinityyachts.com/ARTICLES/YachtPremierNQII.pdf
Here in Key West a Norwegian Queen would be a gay guy from the Scandinavian countries.

Flagler Ave runs from up near the triangle, down by the high school and then on to Flagler’s Hotel the Casa Marina. The first part of the road is a nice 4 lane. The last part of the road just finished an eight month update. I drove it Friday morning and found it to be quite a nice ride,

Saturday morning a bunch of people drove their cars over to Smather’s Beach to form a line of people in the sand to protest the drilling of near shore oil. I wonder where they think the oil came from to power their vehicles and the helicopter that took the picture. I am against near shore oil drilling, but these folks should have ridden bicycles.
