This Week on the Island 05/27/2007

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This weeks pictures are some I found of Key West in the late 60's or early 70's. Check the bell bottoms.
This week I finished reading 'Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination' and started 'The Complete Stories of Mark Twain'.

The Weather: The rainy season does not start until June but we are getting rain every day. It usually rains at night or in the morning and then turns into a beautiful day. The temperature has dropped. It is cool in the morning (mid 70's) and nice in the day (low 80's) with a strong breeze.

Last week I said Paris Hilton was a 'no show' for the recent road rally and power boat race here in the Keys, I have been told by others she was here. Who knows?

Memorial Day weekend and the island is packed, the weather is beautiful.

Tony's Roofing is putting a new roof on 'Shrimp Boat Sounds', Jimmy Buffett's recording studio on Lazy Lane next to the Key West Bight.
A friend of mine mentioned that he was hosting a charity event on June 3rd at the Rum Barrel that benefits The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. He has named the event Cocktails for Cleavage, a portion of the kettle one cocktails will go to the cause, there will be a raffle with 100% of the proceeds going to BCRF.

The local Parrot Head Club completed the building of their boat for the 'Minimal Regatta' that is held each Memorial Day at Schooner Wharf. We have participated for the last 4 years. You get 1 very thin sheet of plywood, two 2x4's, a roll of duct tape, and 1 pound of screws. You build and paint a boat to race (no caulking). Our theme this year is Shark Attack. We will race this Sunday. Pictures next week.
