This Week on the Island 10/23/2011

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Parrot Heads (Jimmy Buffett fans) will be coming to Key West for their annual visit (The Meeting of the Minds) the first part of November. Therefore, for the next few weeks, I will be having pictures that they may find interesting.
The first picture this week (click to enlarge) is ‘Parrot Heads on Duval last year’. The second picture is ‘The Green Parrot’. The third picture is ‘Tattoos and Scars’ a new bar on Green near Sloppy Joes. The fourth picture is ‘I Told You I Was Sick” at the Key West grave yard.

Weather: Last Saturday it was overcast, and then it started to rain. It rained for 4 days and gave us 18 to 21 inches according to the Miami weather report. A cold front moved thru producing a beautiful weekend with lots of sun and no humidity. Saturday morning it was in the 60’s.

No book this week.

This week was Goombay (a celebration of our African heritage). It took place on Patronia Street in Bahama Village. Lots of bands and interest food and of course ‘adult beverages’.

The Parrot Heads are coming, The Parrot Heads are coming.

The buzzards have arrived for this year. They show up each year just before the Parrot Heads.

Road trip: With some friends in town, we loaded up the Hummer and headed to ‘No Name’ for lunch, then to ‘Looe Key’, then ‘Boondocks’, then ‘Mangrove Mama’s’, then ‘Geiger Key’, and then ‘Hog Fish’ for dinner.

Saturday was Sassi’s 14th birthday and the party was at Schooner Wharf. We had dog cake and people cake and treats for the other dogs. Michael McCloud and his band played.

Things Tourist Say:
Are the coconuts in the trees real or do you tie them up there?
Where do the homeless live?
Are these guy’s gay or are they actors?

Next Week FANTASY FEST.
