This Week on the Island 06/15/2014
‘This week on the Island' is
written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key
West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather:
Clouds and rain, then blue skies, white clouds and sun every day. The weather
report stays the same for the next 6 months: hot and humid with a chance for
rain and an occasional hurricane.
This
week I finished ‘Iron Orchid’ by Stuart Woods.
This
was ‘Pride Week’ with lots of activities all around old town. It will all end
Sunday with the ‘Pride Parade’ down Duval Street.
This
week we also had ‘Swim around Key West’. It is a 12 mile swim around the
island. Picture from Rob O’Neal’s Facebook,
We
also had the ‘Castaways against cancer’ kayakers arrive at Higgs Beach from
Miami.
Wednesday,
Jo and I rode our electric trikes across the island to a ‘recommitment’ (kind
of like a re-marriage) on Smathers Beach on the Atlantic side of the island. We
were on the way when Jo had a blow-out. We parked the trikes and walked the
last 3 miles. By the time we got there it was over, but one of Jo’s friends
gave us a ride back to our trikes. The next day I had to purchase a new tire
and tube.
Solo’s
on the 600 block of Green Street has closed. This makes one of many business
that hasn’t made it in that building. 'In the tropics they come and they go'.
A new ship
was parked at the outer mole by the Truman Annex this week. LCS’s

Then I
rode on down to South Beach at the Atlantic end of Duval.
And we
leave you this week at The Southern Most Point in the Continental USA.
Key West you have got to love it
