‘This week on the Island' is
written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key
West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.

Weather:
Another beautiful week. In the mid 80’s in the day and high 70’s at night with
lots of sun.
The
book this week was ‘Vampire Slayer, Murder in Key West’ by Michael Haskins. This
was a collection of 5 short stories. His books are great in that you can follow
the characters around Key West and know many of the locations and people in the
bars and restaurants.
------------Nothing
Happening--------------------
This
is the slow time of the year. School has started and the holidays are not here.
From the middle of September to the middle of October we have few visitors.
Many business’ close for a few weeks and use that time for vacation and giving
the place a good cleaning and some painting. Tourism will pick back up for Goombay
and Fantasy Fest. The Fantasy Fest Parade is usually the last Saturday in
October (Halloween). Our little island normally will have about 75,000 visitors
for Fantasy Fest and everyone wants to be on the first few blocks of Duval.
This will be followed the first week of November with 3,000 Parrot Heads. A lot less people but a fun little group.
Still
have lots of the young folks hanging around Dante’s pool.
Jo and
I got on our blue electric trikes and rode around town Thursday. She wanted to
do some shopping. We ended up at Kennedy Café on the corner of Kennedy and
North Roosevelt. We had some Russian beers, Greek salad, and a Gyro each. Just
two old people living in Florida and getting around on their tricycles.
Things
have changed from the days that we had matching black 86 Corvettes. We were
young people working hard and in a hurry.
Boca
likes Captain Tony’s. Here he is laying on Elvira’s tombstone in the floor in
the pool room at Captain Tony’s.
---------------Thank
You------------
I am
very happy to stop and talk to folks that read the blog. This week we had some
folks from Iowa drop by and deliver ½ dozen ears of Iowa corn. It was very
tasty. Some folks from Illinois stop Boca and me on one of our may walks. They
were headed to Sloppy Joes. We also seem to find blog readers at Schooner.
Key West you have got to love it
