‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
The Weather: We got some rain this week. But it is still beautiful.
Conch Republic 10-day celebration began this week. On April 23, 1982, Key West seceded from the Union and became the Conch Republic.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conch_Republic
The ‘Raising of the Flag’ at Fort Zack.
The ‘Kick Off Party’ at Schooner.
The ‘Drag Racing’ on Duval Street.

A little history
We leave you this week at the Tiki hut at Fort Zack looking out on the ships channel. To your left is the Atlantic, to your right is The Gulf of Mexico.
