This Week on the Island 02/12/2017

‘This Week on the Island’ is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
Weather:  Same as last week. Lots of sunshine, blue skies and white clouds. Temperature in the high 70’s and low 80’s. People everywhere. I guess they are tired of the cold.
The book this week was ‘One Strange Date’ by Laurence Shames. This is his 11th book I’ve read.
How about some pictures of old Key West?
Fort Zack when it was surrounded by water.
April 1886 Key West burned to the ground.
The old 7 Mile Bridge
North Roosevelt. The area on the right was filled and now have Sears and Kmart shopping centers.
The Oldest Bar, before Captain Tony’s.
Blue Heaven
Buddy Owens, B.O.’s Fish Wagon on Duval
The Old Fisherman’s Café on Caroline Street
Pepe’s when it was on Duval
The Gallery before the Bull and Whistle
Before Will T’s it was the Charcoal Restaurant, before that they used the building to sell charcoal.
Before Salute
The Old Chart Room
Building Delmonico’s Restaurant on the corner of Green and Duval. Now Sloppy Joe’s.
We leave you this week with a picture from The Key West Citizen of the eclipse of the moon Friday night. It wasn’t much of an eclipse here.
Key West you have got to love it
