This Week on the Island 04/08/2007

'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The picture this week is Dog Beach. It is a little postage stamp size beach next to Louies BackYard. Dogs are welcome.

Book this week: I tried reading 'A Tale of Two Cities' online, finally checked the book out of the library.

The Weather: A cold front came thru Friday night. The high for Saturday was only the mid 70's. It had been the same for the last 3 weeks. Sunny, warm, no clouds, no humidity. It will be back to normal by Monday.

We are on water restriction. Key West keeps building more and more condos and sells water to the cruise ships, but citizens must save water. All of our water come from the Miami area (150 miles north) and gets to us via the pipeline under the roadway and 43 bridges that get you to Key West.

Harpoon Harry's didn't sell last week at the auction. The owners turned down the bid of $2.1 million.

The island is packed this week. I guess a lot of people took vacation, with most people getting Good Friday off.

I received an email from a friend in the cold frozen north (anywhere north of Miami) and they really want to go somewhere where it is warm. Well, just to rub it in I took pictures this week of the Key West 7 public beaches. They are shown from the smallest (Dog Beach) to the largest (Smathers Beach).
