This Week on the Island 01/28/2007
'This week on the Island' is written by Doug Bennett and is an update to friends about happenings in Key West last week. Everything is true except for those parts that are lies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The picture this week is Michael McCloud with Bubba on Bass and Carl on lead at Schooner Wharf. Saturday it was in the high 70's and not a cloud in the sky.
This week I read 'Trap Line' by Carl Hiaasen.
The Weather: It has been in the low 80's this week but Thursday night a cold front moved thru the keys. Friday morning it was in the high 50's with a 20 MPH wind. I had to put on my jeans and a wind breaker. It warmed back up by the weekend.
Key West is a very 'giving' town. Most every event ends up giving in some way to the local charities. You know that the local Parrot Head Club works with the MARC House (Monroe County Association for Retarded Citizens) and you know that we give away almost all our money at yearend to local charities.
This week the Half Shell Raw Bar had their 9th annual Marathon with money going to a local charity.
The Curry Mansion had Monte Carlo Night with all proceeds going to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Saturday and Sunday was the Key West 22nd Annual Craft Show. It was held on Whitehead Street.
The Bahamian Heritage Festival was held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Project Lighthouse was Friday night. It was a fund raiser for homeless street youth of Key West.
Nancy's Secret Garden had an Art Show on Sunday.
The Lower Keys Artist Network had a showing in the Winn-Dixie shopping center on Friday.
Let's not forget Bikini Bull Riding at Cowboy Bill's Honky Tonk Saloon on Duval. No money was raised for charity at this event, but I think everyone there had a good time.
